Flower Delivery to Earley with Clare Florist
Earley (which is sometimes spelled Erleigh or Erlegh) is a town and civil parish in Berkshire that lies around five miles west of Wokingham and two miles south east of central Reading. It consists of several smaller and well-known areas such as Lower Earley and Maiden Erlegh and, as of 2001, has a population of more than 30,000 people.
The History of Earley
Earley was mentioned in the Domesday Book but was called “Herlei”. It was noted to have two main manors which were both owned by the Erlegh family: Erleigh St Bartholomew (which was later named Erleigh Court) and Erleigh St Nicolas (which was later known as Erleigh White Knight).
In 1362, John de Erlegh gifted a piece of land to Robert de Erlegh, and this area eventually became known as manor of Maiden Erleigh. The ownership of the manor was transferred to numerous people (including Charles Hide of Abingdon, Valentine Crome and William Matthew Birt), until it eventually fell into the hands of millionaire Solly Joel, who donated a piece of his land and asked it to be used for sporting purposes. The park and the pavilion that were built on this area are still being used today.
Life in Earley
In 2014, Earley was included in the Royal Mail's list of the Most Desirable Postcodes in the UK (Earley's postcode is RG6). This isn't really surprising since the area has lots of wonderful things to offer to its residents. For one thing, it's served by excellent transportation links such the Earley and Winnersh Triangle railway stations and the M4 motorway as well as several bus routes by Reading Buses. This means that people can easily commute to and from neighbouring towns and cities for work and leisure.
Early also enjoys a decent economy because of the numerous business that are based in the area, creating many stable jobs for residents. Thames Valley Business Park, for instance, houses the headquarters of several major companies like Microsoft, ING Direct, Regus and Oracle. Suttons Business Park, on the other hand, is home to Hewlett Packard, Royal Mail and Rockwell Collins.
