Flower Delivery to Ascott by Clare Florist

Ascott is a hamlet and country house located outside the village of wing, in Buckinghamshire, England. It lies completely within the Ascott Estate Boundary and home to many of the estate and house staff.

There was formerly an Abbey at Ascott, prior to the Norman Conquest which had been given to a Benedictine convent by a royal in Angiers. The convent was however seized by the English church in 1415 and handed over to the convent of St Mary du Pre, near St Albans believing  it belonged to the French.

In the early 16th century, the abbey along with the manor of wing were seized by the crown and handed to Cardinal Wosley. It wasn’t long after that before it was seized again, during the Dissolution if the Monasteries and was given to Lord Dormer. Lord Dormer once entertained Princess Elizabeth at the house as she was on her way to London.

The abbey, which is now a house once featured additions attributed to one of the first significant British architect of the early modern period called Inigo Jones. After the death of Earl of Caernarvon in 1709, the house was broken up as well as the estate since he had no heir to tend to it, the deer were sold and all the timber were cut and sold off.  In the late 19th century, The Rothschild family began to acquire estates in including Ascott. Baron Mayer de Rothschild bought a farm house in 1873 known as the Ascot hall and gave it to his nephew who employed an architect by the name of George Devey to enlarge the property into an extensive country house. Today the property is now under the National Trust and it is referred to as the Ascott House.

Some of the attractions in Ascott and the Buckinghamshire include:

Ascott House and Gardens - Ascott house and gardens are located outside the village of wing and close to the Leighton Buzzard. The National Trust took over the House and the grounds from Anthony de Rothschild in 1949 and is still used as a residential area and open to the public at given periods. The house is a 19th century timbered house with few rooms inside. It has a porcelain room with beautiful Chinese ceramics on display. The gardens are beautiful with bright and colorful flowers like tulips and daffodils. There is a lily pond and it affords a lovely view of the Aylesbury landscape.

Waddesdon Manor - The Waddesdon Manor is also a property once owned by the Rothschilds but now with the National Trust. It is a Renaissance styled chateau house with one of the finest collections of French 18th century decorative arts in the world. The Victorian garden is regarded as one of the finest in Britain. There are shops, restaurants and a plant centre, a visit to Waddesdon makes a memorable day out for everyone7

THINGS TO DO

Watching canal boats - The grand union canal which was once the busiest canal in Britain runs from London through the chitern hills all the way to Birmingham. It opened in 1805 and it has 160 locks. It is a nice place for a canal side walk, watching people on their boats working the lock system. There is a pub next to the canal where one can get food to eat.

Visit the Roald Dahl museum - Families can bring their children to this great museum which is all about Roald Dahl, who was Great Missenden’s most famous president. They each get a "My Story Ideas Book" and a pencil to keep them amused around the museum. There are different galleries about Roald Dahl to keep them busy all day. The facilities are good, they have a café and a nice shop. It would cost about £20 for a family of four to visit the museum. The staffs are kind and friendly. They also have a great car park
