Burleydam is a small village in Cheshire, England situated near the small settlements of Barnett Brook, Grindley Green and Royal's Green in Dotcott cum Wilkesley. The Cisterian monastry of Combermere Abbey was given the land in its foundation, and later theabbey's estate was given to Sir George Cotton. The Cotton family, later known as the Viscounts Combermere, remained land owners in the area unto the 20th century.

You can still visit Combermere Abbey today, as this former monastery now stands as an accommodation and wedding venue. Another beautiful 1700's build to visit in Burleydam is St Mary's and St Michael's Church. This red brick church is a grade II listed building, as are the cast-iron churchyard gates and railings which came from Lleweni Hall in Wales.

This small villages offers something spooky, the Combermere Arms is a traditional pub that is said to be haunted by a poltergeist-like spirit. The story goes that two clergymen tricked the spirit into entering a bottle which was then buried under the entrance to the pub, and in some versions of the story the ghost is that of a murdered monk.
