Flower Delivery to Twelveheads with Clare Florist
Twelveheads is a small hamlet located east of St. Day in the west part of Cornwall, England. Twelveheads is part of the Chacewater parish. The closest towns to this hamlet are Redruth located few miles west of Twelveheads and the city of Truro located southeast of this hamlet.
Of course, one of the most interesting things about this hamlet is its name. This area was long used for mining and this is how it got its name. In the past, mining companies have used several sets of stamps on the dressing floors in this settlement. A stamp is a machine used for grinding ore. Each stamp had twelve “heads” or Twelveheads. The Cornish name of this settlement is Dewhek Stamp.
This hamlet is situated in a valley close to the hills that were once rich in ore. Even though there was settlement here for many centuries, the hamlet/village was most developed during the Industrial Era. The middle of the 19th century brought access to the railway (there was a railway station in Chacewater just few miles north of Twelveheads), but starting from the 20th century the population started dropping. Today there are only few dozens of people who live there and they spend most of their time in the neighboring towns.
