A grist mill used to be in town, but the date is unknown on when it was first built. In 1762 it was converted to a paper mill. During the 1840s John Dewdney invented the first glazed paper to be used in England. This paper was perfect for writing letters on. For the Great Exhibition in 1851 he was noted for having produced the paper that was used for creating the Great Exhibition catalogues. Today the Devon Valley Mill produces teabags and sausage casing paper.

There are activities for the children to enjoy, including ballgames and a trampoline. The farm has some backup indoor events in the event of rain.

Right beside the farm is a newly planted forest, with many species of butterflies, birds, animals, and wildflowers. Take a stroll down the path to see what nature has to offer.

From the farm you can also walk over to the Two Moors Way path and head to Witheridge. Be sure to plan plenty of time to enjoy your stay. They even sell refreshments and ice cream to get you fuelled for your trip back home.

The village of Hele is host to several festivals throughout the year. The Easter egg hunt and the beer festival in the summer time are popular events, drawing in tourists and neighbours from the surrounding regions.
