Sir Hugh Steuart Gladstone – a civil servant and ornithologist. He was Lord Lieutenant of Dumfries and lived at Capenoch House, which is located in the village.
Joseph Thomson – a geologist and explorer born in the village. Thomson’s gazelle is named after him.
Andy Goldsworthy – a sculptor who lived in the village since 1986. He has a workshop in the area and a lot of his works can be found in the surrounding countryside.

Penpont Bridge. This is a two-arched stone bridge built during the 1760s after the presbytery of the village raised money to cover the cost. Construction began in 1774 and it was completed in 1778. Today, the bridge is a Category A listed building.
Penpont’s Church of Scotland parish church. The style of the building is Gothic Revival. Construction of the church was completed in 1867. Today, it’s a Category B listed building.
Penpont’s War Memorial. Made by William Kellock Brown, a sculptor from Glasgow. The memorial was installed in 1920.

Drumlanrig Castle. A Category A listed castle located on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway. It’s the home of the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry. The 17th-century castle is considered one of the most important Renaissance structures in the country. Set in 120,000 acres of land, the grounds also feature a country park and Victorian gardens.
Morton Castle. This was once the stronghold of the Douglas family and is a fine example of a late 13th-century hall house. The castle overlooks Morton Loch and the Lowther Hills. It’s now in ruins and only one side survives.
