Flower Delivery to Buckhurst Hill by Clare Florist
The earliest mention of Buckhurst Hill comes in 1135 as La Bocherste, the name then transitioning to an anglicized pronunciation of Bucket Hill in later years. Through most of its history, the town was little more than stage coach stop within Epping Forrest between London and Cambridge, but in 1865 the train lines came through and development took off.
In 1838 the parish house of St. John was built as a chapel of ease, becoming a fully ecclesiastical church in 1867. From its consecration, the grounds have been meticulously cared for with some of the most dazzling floral and gardening displays in the region. Visitors can enjoy some quality time with family and friends while exploring the grounds.
Buckhurst Hill flowers have a long standing reputation for excellence, with numerous residents endeavoring to grow some of the most vivacious and exciting varieties in the North London area. Just a short tram ride along the London central line, a warm day spent browsing the gardens and shops will be a day well spent.
As a middle-class suburban community, Buckhurst Hill offers a pleasing selection of continental foods for visitors to enjoy. As it happens, the town’s three most prominent restaurants all specialize in Italian cuisine, and all lie along the easily accessible Queen’s Road. Il Baccio is probably the most sought after by local residents, but if the lines are long, a short trip down the street will find equal fare with delightful ambience in either Prezzo or Mamma Lina’s Italian restaurant. These cater to day trippers and families alike, so no appetite will go un-sated.
The town offers a pleasant charm with architecture reflecting its typical Victorian nature. With the railway opening, this was the period in which the town saw the most growth, so there are excellent examples of both homes and gardens reflecting a romantic 19th century ambience.
While in the area, be sure to take a jaunt over to Waltham Abbey Gardens, which are the remains of what was once the largest Augustinian abbey in the United Kingdom. The gardens are not only known for their floral beauty, but also as a heritage site where dragonflies flock to the delight of visitors each season. Also be sure to squeeze in a visit to the Valentines Mansion and Garden, where you can wander the period recreated grounds and intimately explore nature. A family-friendly destination, you and your children can walk the paths to see the vivacious flowers abundant in the Buckhurst region. For tea, be sure to enjoy the warmth hospitality of the Garden Cottage Café on the grounds before moving on.
