Sadly the building fell into a state of disrepair in the late 1970s and early 1980s but in 1996, the building underwent a period of renovation, and it currently operates as a restaurant and a beach bistro.

There is also a Heritage Centre to be found on Canvey Road, and this was the former St Katherines Church, which was initially built in the 1870s. The church stopped being used as a place of worship in the 1960s and it currently holds a folk museum and an arts and craft centre.
