Leigh-On-Sea is a civil parish in Essex.  It is the only parish within Southend-On-Sea.  The area was originally known as a fishing village before it became a port and shipbuilding centre.  However, during the 18th century the shipping trade moved to other ports and the town reverted back to a fishing village.  

St. Clements is the parish church and it dates back to the 15th century.  The structure of the church was renovated during the 19th and 20th centuries.  Sailors have used the church as a landmark since it is located on top of a cliff.
