Flower Delivery to Shenfield with Clare Florist
Shenfield is a town of the district of Brentwood, and county of Essex, in southeastern England. There are over 5,432 people living in this suburb, with a large multi-cultural background. It’s considered a dormitory town, as most of its residents commute to and from London, Romford, and Basildon each day for work. The name Shenfield derives from the Anglo-Saxon word Chenefield, which means good lands.
The original village dates back to Roman times, and was located near the church. It was located about 1.6 km northeast of Brentwood. The original Roman road became the A1023 in modern times, which currently links London and Colchester.
Shenfield has a small shopping centre, built in the 1930s, to serve the region, and a small industrial area where some of the locals work. The town has three schools, St. Mary’s Church of England primary school, Long Ridings primary school, and Shenfield High School. To reach the town the A12 and M25 are the main roads in.
The town is also served by commuter rail services. The Shenfield Railway station is part of the Great Eastern Main Line, and services for Southend, and Southminster services run by Abellio Greater Anglia and TFl Rail. The main railway station is located at the eastern end of the high street. There are also many bus routes operated by TFL.
The Shenfield St. Mary’s Church was built in the 13th century. The porch and tower spire were added in the 15th century. In 1648, Nathaniel Ward was a Puritan clergyman and author, who was made minister of the church. He remained until his death in 1652.
Once a year, the Shenfield Strawberry Festival is held on Shenfield Common, with over 3000 to 5000 visitors in attendance in past years. There is musical entertainment under the big tent, children’s entertainment, craft stall sellers, and plenty of food to eat and drink.
To the north of the town, off Chelmsford Road, are green pastures and farmlands. Shenfield currently has many recreational areas, including the Courage Playing Fields on Chelmsford Road, and a playing field on Alexander Lane next to the high school. There is also a play area on the Courage Playing field. The Shenfield Cricket Club plays on this field.
Shenfield is currently being actively developed. There are plans to bring in CrossRail by 2018. Hutton Road and town centre are being redeveloped. New trees are to be planted, and an information centre for tourists will be built. Officer’s Meadows will be a 500 unit development that is to be built beside Shenfield High School’s playing field. There are also plans to build a lovely Country Park beside the High School.
