Flower Delivery to St Osyth with Clare Florist
Located about five miles west of Clacton-on-Sea and about 12 miles south-east of Colchester , St Osyth has transport links to Colchester and Clacton. The nearest rail station is situated at Great Bentley, which is about four miles away. St Osyth sits on the B1027 and is named after Osyth, a saint and Anglian princess.
The village was called Chich before being renamed to commemorate Saint Osyth. Saint Osyth or Ositha was a young lady involved in several fantastical events during her lifetime. The origins of the village are said to have been around the same time as the Priory during the 12th century. However, investigations have shown that there is little evidence of a settlement earlier than the 14th century.
Saint Osyth was the focus of witch persecutions in the 16th and 17th centuries with a total of ten women hanged as a result.
