Moonzie, in the Gaelic language means “the Hill of the Deer”. This place was the seat of the Crawfurd family in the early days and the structure of the church which was located on rising ground at the south-west of the parish was without a tower nor a spire. Before 1238, the parish was known as Urhithumonesyn and Auchtermonsey, subsequently. The church has a make-over in the 18th century. The church parish has a land area of 1258 acres.
Colluthie – located within the parish, this is a mansion 4 ½ miles northwest by North of Cupar and built around 1356 bu the successor and son-in-law of the last Earl of Fife of the ancient Macduff line, Sir William Ramsay. It still looks majestic with its arched doors and windows as well a dense walls although it has now become uninhabitable but was renovated in 1840.
Lordscaine Castle - in 2009, it was owned by Neil and Mary Blackburn who also owned Fernie Castle. From the south elevation of the ruins, you can see that stone robbers have removed the building corners and to its right is a barmkin tower. It was once an islet which was surrounded by a lake and was said to have been constructed by the third Earl of Crawford, during the reign of James II. He was referred to as Earl Beardie. It was also used as a quarry for some time, with walls that are six feet thich and a height of 54 feet.
Mills Observatory – located 9 miles from Moonzie, in Dundee, is a go-to destination where you can also take the kids with you. Other nearby places to visit while at the observatory is the University of Dundee Botanical Garden.
