The history of Elkstone begins about one millennium ago when this area was rules by two separate manors. When the Norman Conquest was over, Elkstone was ruled by Ansfrid de Cormeilles. According to Domesday Book there were more than 20 people living in this village at that time and this village was known as Elchestane back then.
Many different families were taking care of this village throughout its rich history. One of the periods when this village experienced expansion and growth was the 18th century although the 19th century was more important when it comes to its economic growth. This is the time when several roads were built. In the 1850s the population reached is record high – 350 people lived in Elkstone at this time.
Elkstone is actually relatively close to London. It is located about 100 miles west of London and if you want to get there you can use the M4 road or M40 and A40 road. It will take around 2-hour drive to get there from London. You can also use the train station in Gloucestershire and get a bus to Elkstone.
