The small town of Hook is a civil parish located in the county’s Hart district and the village of Hook is in the county’s Fareham district. In 1783, William Hornby, Governor of Bombay was granted property in Hook by the British government. This led him to build a mansion there between 1785 and 1789 that was modeled after the Government House in Bombay. But in 1903, this mansion was burnt down in a fire.
