Wonston is a beautiful little village and civil parish that rests nestled in the district of Hampshire.  This delightful little piece of English countryside is a bit off the beaten path, but more than 1,200 souls still call it home.  Though small, it is far from forgotten and is also home to some of the most delightful pieces of architecture in the country.

The main point of interest is the Manor of Wonston, a centerpiece in the village.  This amazing building has stood the test of time. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as belonging to the Bishop of Winchester. It is currently used as rectory for the current diocese of Winchester.

The village is also home to three churches: The Holy Trinity church and two dedicated facilities.  The first is dedicated to both St. Mary and St. Michael, and the second to St. James.  These churches are still used to this day.

One of the most fascinating things about Wonston is its place in history.  Recently, a plaque was unveiled in the city square commemorating a group of men that gathered there. These men came together to sign a petition in the year 1830 to demand parliamentary reform. This petition was drafted in the White Swan Inn, which unfortunately was demolished in the 1960s, and it’s signing led to the Swing Riots and severe penalties for a number of the signers.
