Ham is a small hamlet located in the county of Kent on the southwestern region of England, and in the Eastry district. Ham is located 1.6 kilometres from Eastry and 3.2 kilometres from Sandwich, and is on the eastern side of Kent.
The hamlet is located near many attractions. It’s a short drive to London, and the Canterbury Cathedral is also near by. The port of Dover and the Chunnel Tunnel are also a close drive away.
The town has the St. Augustine Church. This is ecclesiastically located in the archdeaconry of Canterbury. The church was built around 1552.
In the Domesday book of 1086, Ham is listed as “Hama”. There are also many old records noting it as “Kings Ham”. There are some old records from 1859 that state that the town was located on 320 acres of land. There were forty-seven people living in the hamlet at that time, with nine houses. Property was owned by a few landowners, and was worth £787. The principal manor was Updown House. These details were also noted in 1870-72 in John Marius Wilson’s “Imperial Gazetteer of England And Wales”. It also states that the church “was old but good”.
