Kent in the south of the UK for example, is home to some simply stunning locations, including High Halden, which is the humble and quaint little village which we’ll be focusing on in this article. High Halden, is a civil parish village located in Ashford Kent, and is absolutely ideal for anybody who loves rural countryside locations. High Halden history – High Halden, being a parish village, is perhaps best known for its historic church/landmark, St Mary’s Church. St Mary’s Church is an iconic piece of High Halden history and it dates back many, many centuries. The church is actually a grade 1 listed building and it was constructed back in the 1200’s. The earliest recorded name of a priest in the church is recorded in 1286, who was a man known as Richard de Halyngleghe. Over the years the church has been extended and restored but what’s especially impressive is that over fifty tons of solid Oak wood was used to construct both the spire, and the tower of this stunning church. In the year 1835, the church was fully restored via funds which were kindly donated by a Mrs Amy Kynaston Sutton, the widow of a former vicar. High Halden however, also has roots with the smuggling and organised crime world as the village is home to a world-famous pub known as the Chequers on the Green. This pub was frequented by many a shady character and is still in operation to this day, although nowadays you won’t find a gang member or smuggler in sight.
