The historic town of Sandwich can be found in Dover, Kent in south east England. A popular town, it was one of the Cinque Ports, originally formed in the 12th century for military purposes, however though it was once a major port it is now some two miles from the sea. Much of its historic centre has been preserved and there are still a number of original medieval buildings to be experienced in the town.

The town has its own train station that operates on the Kent Coast line that runs between Dover Priory and Margate. Road access is via the A256 that connects Dover and the Thanet towns.

There are plenty of attractions in the area. The town centre has a number of historic buildings such as the 15th centrury Guildhall Museum as well as several listed public houses. The White Mill, Sandwich's only remaining windmill is open to the public and houses displays about farming and milling in Victorian times.

The town is also popular with nature lovers and is home to many beautiful flower displays. The Monk's Wall nature reserve and bird observatory found at Sandwich Bay is home to a wild ducks and a variety of other wildlife. In the restored Salutation Gardens, also known as the Secret Gardens of Sandwich flowers can be seen in bloom throughout the year.

The Sandwich Riverbus runs year round trips on the River Stour to see local wildlife and seals. It also provides a regular service to the Richborough Roman Fort, where the Romans are believed to have invaded in AD 47.

There are a number of golf courses in the area including the 18 hole Royal Championship course, Royal St George's and 27 hole Royal Championship course, Prince's. The town also has its own Sandwich Festival, which runs annually in the latter part of August and includes a number of concerts and parades.
