Baston is a mid-size village and civil parish that belongs the administrative district of South Kesteven in Lincolnshire. According to the latest census the village has a population of about 1450 people living in more than 500 households.
What is interesting about Baston is its location. It is located on the edge of what is known as The Fens or the Fenlands – a naturally marshy area located in eastern England. Although there is some evidence that people were active in this region in pre-history, what is known for sure is that a Roman road was built during the Roman reign in England. This road was connecting this region with Spalding.
Most of the modern road today follows the same route. Within the village’s border, there is an Anglican cemetery that was used until the 6th century. There is evidence that King Arthur used this region for training. The cemetery was discovered in the 19th century. During medieval era, Baston was affected by the plague when many people lost their lives. This is something that people can see in the village’s burial lists.
The village is very close to River Glen and people frequently use this place for picnics.
