Flower Delivery to Beswick with Clare Florist
Beswick is an area in the city of Manchester, England historically in Lancashire, with the district of Bradford bothering it to the east and the two areas sometimes referred to as Bradgord with Beswick. River Medlock and the Ashton Canal both run through it. Beswick like many districts in east Manchester has been known for its poverty and deprivation, although after the 2002 Commonwealth Games things have improved since.
Beswick Village history is ancient and was initially called Bexwic around 1200 – 1230 and was believed to be the combination of a personal name and a dwelling place. At the height of the industrial revolution, the industry here was less than what obtained in Bradford Village and was predominantly a residential area of terraced houses. Beswick was incorporated into Manchester in 1838 and has long been known for its annual fairs and markets, with Silcocks Beswick Fair being a regular pre-Christmas event in the days before 1939. The area suffered a decline as its textile industry suffered difficult times shortly after World War 2, and there was a great amount of clearance and redevelopment done. Blocks of flats replaced old Victorian houses but were demolished in the mid 1970s and replaced with more humane houses at ground level in an attempt to preserve the community life almost lost with the demolition of the tower blocks.
