The burgh town of Buckie is in Scotland and lies on the Moray Firth coast. The town was once a major shipbuilding and fishing port and Cluny harbour is still thought of as the heart of the community.

The connection with boats and ships still thrives, however, because Buckie Shipyard is responsible for refitting and carrying out repairs on the United Kingdom's RNLI lifeboats.

The town lies on both banks of the Burn of Buckie and was created by the integration of several small fishing villages. Buckie actually started to take its current form about 300 years ago when a new town was developed by the Gordons of Cluny who were lairds of the area.

The town is laid out in a grid pattern with Cluny Square the centre and West Church Street and East Church Street running off to form the axis.

Many local people now work on the oil rigs in the North Sea but other industry includes food processing with several fish smoke houses and processing plants dotted along the harbour. The Inchgower Distillery is a short distance outside the town and produces the Inchgower Single Malt whisky.

This attractive town is built in traditional Scottish style and the high street offers the usual assortment of shops and retail outlets. The formal gardens in Cluny Square around the memorial are beautifully tended and flower delivery in Buckie remains popular.

The harbour remains a central focus and is thought to be one of the busiest in Scotland. Despite the decline of the fishing industry Buckie harbour remains busy and it is still the place to watch fishing boats about their daily business.

Collectors of lifeboats are often seen here as there are usually several in varying states of repair. Buckie's own lifeboat is also moored in the harbour and attracts its own share of visitors.
