It is generally thought that the name Kettlewell is of Anglo-Saxon origin. The Domesday Book makes mention of Kettlewell and in it, a long and varied history. An important Thursday Market held at the square opposite the Kings Head Inn and mostly sold corn once flourished in the area.
King Henry gave license to Ralph Earl of Westmoorland to enclose 300 acres of land for hunting and a deer park in 1410. It was called Scale Park and is located on the Park Rash Road over to Coverdale.
Cotton and lead mining were important industries in the village with the latter bringing prosperity in the 17th through late 19th centuries.
Scarecrow Festival – has been organised since 1998 where residents display scarecrows in gardens, open spaces, hidden corners and even rooftops. In addition, delicious home-made produce are also prepared and served for visitors.
Kettlewell & District Horticultural Society Annual Show – a chance of horticulture enthusiasts to show off what they have done. It's an event that features a range of plants as well as some flowers in Kettlewell.

St Mary's Church – consecrated on 8 September 1885, St Mary's Day. The structure that stands today was built during the 19th century. There was an original church built by the Norman de Arches family in 1120.
