The man told him about his dreams. The man laughed at him and said that he had had a dream that there was treasure to be found in Upsall, North Yorkshire. The Londoner said he had never heard of the place, and asked the Upsall man if he knew it. The Upsall man chose to not tell the Londoner, returned home, and he found the treasure the London man had dreamed of.

The hamlet is located in the Hambleton district. The history dates back to the Norman invasion,  after which it was passed down from family to family, until it went from the Constable family to the Turtons in 1768. The town still belongs to the Turtons today.
One of the most notable sights to see in Upsall is the Upsall castle, which is right in the middle of the village. It is a ruin from the 14th century, and is now a park and a manor house. The earlier recounted folk story actually takes place in part at the castle, for the legend has it that the man encountered in London told the Upsall man that the treasure was buried under a specific bush at Upsall castle. In some versions of the story, the man dreams that if he goes to London he will find the money to restore the castle to its former greatness. Aside from the tales, Upsall castle offers a beautiful view of the fields below it, as well as a view of what the small town might have been like many years before. The original castle, which is thought to have been begun in 1327, was destroyed, most likely in a civil war. The castle was never rebuilt, and instead there is a manor house in its place.
