Flower Delivery to Northampton with Clare Florist

Northampton is located in the East Midlands of England on the River Rene, and it’s the county of Northamptonshire. This town happens to be one of the largest in the United Kingdom, with a population of about 212,100 people as of the 2011 census. The origins of the town date back to the Bronze Age; archeology has provided proof of settlements at this point in time.

In the Middle Ages it was a walled town with the Northampton Castle at its center, which now happens to be the location of the railway station. This castle used to host the royalty and the Parliament of England regularly. It was built in 1084 by the first Earl of Northampton, Simon de Senlis. He also built what is now known as the oldest standing building in town, the Holy Sepulcher. It also happens to be one of the biggest and best-conserved churches in the country, and it was built in 1100.

In 1675 the town endured a terrible fire that proved to be quite destructive for most part of the town and its structures. The rebuilding and restorations continued on to the 18th century. During this period, a lot of fine buildings were brought up all surrounding the market square. I’d say you could call this a silver lining! Or, more accurately, the phoenix rising from the ashes. The focal point during restorations was the All Saints Church; its construction begun in 1864 and was completed by 1960.

Among other remarkable historic buildings, you’ll find: the Northampton Cathedral which is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Northampton, where you’ll find Northampton’s Bishop. The St Andrew's Hospital, open since 1838, it’s one of the largest neo-classical buildings in all of England. There’s also the Express Lift Tower, the 78 Derngate, and the Northampton Guildhall, among many other structures. We urge the history aficionado to read further into the past times of this wonderful little town, it will prove interesting.

Since this is a site for flower lovers, we have to move on to greener things. You should know that Northampon’s county flower is the Primula veris, which is commonly known as cowslip. This is a very common flower in town, but you’ll find many other species walking around. Such as: Calothamnus, wattle, emu bush, hakea, and many others.

On top of a healthy variety of flora and wildlife, this town and the whole county of Northamptonshire offers its visitors some of the most fascinating countryside in the country. You won’t get tired of the miles of walks, charming country parks, canals and large areas of ancient woodland waiting for you to explore them.

Overall, there’s not a chance you’ll get bored if you choose to visit Northampton. There are a lot of family attractions such as the billing aquadrome, the alton towers, the costwold wildlife park, among others. There are a variety of country parks for you to visit and also many historic houses such as the Althrop house, the Broughton house and castle, etc. You’ll also find museums, galleries and many places to shop around, as well as gardens, nature reserves and habitats. Don’t overlook this town when you’re planning for your next trip!
