Wellingborough is a market town in the county of Northamptonshire. It is just 11 miles from the county town of Northampton and just over 20 miles from Central Milton Keynes.

Founded in the early 6th Century by Saxon leader, Waende, the town was originally called Wendelinburgh. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name Wendelburie. The town grew over the years and in 1201 was granted market town status by King John.

Wellingborough is a picturesque town, located on the River Neme and the old town has many old buildings of interest. There is however a modern town centre which includes The Swansgate Shopping Centre. Opened in 2008, many of the major chains are represented as well as independent stores and boutiques.

It is a popular place to live, as of 2011, it was home to almost 50,000 people. Due to its favourable location this is set to increase. In late 2012 plans to build several thousand new homes in the town were confirmed. The transport links are good, with regular buses serving all the major routes and a regular train service into London Pancras International. In line with the rest of the expansion, plans to expand and modernise the railway station have also been unveiled. Wellingborough is an old town with plenty going on for the future.

The town boasts plenty of green open spaces, including Croyland Park, once the site of a Jacobean Abbey. Despite being an increasingly large town, there is plenty of countryside around to explore. If you have friends or loved ones in the area, it is easy to send flowers to Wellingborough.
