The small village of Hoveringham is located in Nottinghamshire.  The surrounding area is known for their extensive sand and gravel, which has been extracted since 1939. 

There has been a church in Hoveringham since approximately 950 A.D. or the 11th century, depending on what historical information is presented. Sometime in the 14th century, the early church was replaced with a larger building that included stone complete with transepts. The square tower that held three bells was added to the St. Michael’s church much later. Sir Robert Goushill was one of the patrons of the church in the 14th century and both his and his wife’s tombs are against the west wall inside the church. There used to be many more tombs inside the old church, but they are currently missing. The church’s parish registers are all listed in the Nottinghamshire Archives. There is a list of recorded baptisms from 1553, marriages from 1560 and burials from 1567. 

On January 12th and 29th of 1945, two Lancaster bombers crashed into a field near the village on Hoveringham. Both crews of the bombers died.  Helen Nall had found a piece of the debris in a field many years later and after researching the information, she decided to have a memorial erected to honor the fourteen men who died that day. She also wrote a book called “Courage of the Small Hours” which she wrote as a tribute to all of the Bomber aircrews that did not live to see the end of the Second World War, but especially the fourteen that died so close to her home.

Ferry Farm Park is a great place to visit with the family. There are plenty of animals that everyone will enjoy interacting with. There is also an adventure playground, an indoor soft play area and go karts and tractors to ride. 

In years past, Hoveringham has hosted an open garden festival.  At least seven gardens have been open to the public, so that they could enjoy the beauty of all of the flowers and shrubs. Plants have also been available for purchase at this event.
