Flower Delivery to Childrey: A Beautiful Village and Civil Parish in Oxfordshire
Childrey may not be as popular as other places in Oxfordshire , but it's one of the best options if you'd like to spend a weekend or even your entire holiday in a peaceful and relaxing area. It's a village and a civil parish that is part of the district of the Vale of White Horse and is located less than three miles away from the market town of Wantage. Its name comes from the Old English word “Cille-rīþ”, and the “ey” in “Childrey” conveys the fact that it used to be an island settlement in a marsh.
Childrey in the Past
It's believed that Childrey has been inhabited by people for more than 3,000 years, but the evidence of occupation in the area only go as far as the Roman Times. After the Romans, the Saxons were believed to occupy the village; in fact, the name “Childrey” seems to have originated from them.
A few manors have been developed in Childrey over the years. One of these is the Rampayns manor, which used to be the home of the Fettiplace family until they abandoned it and moved to another place. The manor was restored and enlarged by a man named Burton. Another manor is the Frethornes, which was named after the tenants of the manor called the de Frethornes, who lived there for almost 200 years. Still another manor is the Mautravers, which was named after several generations of John Mautravers who were lord of the manor.
Childrey in the Present
Those who live in Oxfordshire know Childrey as a great springtime destination. By spending your spring holiday in the area, you'll be treated to the wonderful view of the village nestled in between the Vale and beautiful rolling hills of the Berkshire Downs. Of course, you'll have the chance to enjoy fresh air and relaxing atmosphere and forget the noise, stress, and hassle of the city.
When you're in Childrey, make sure to visit St. Mary's Church. It was built either in the late 12th century or the early 13th century, and it understandably has gone through several renovations and rebuilding over years. You can also take a walk around the village to enjoy the beautiful springtime flowers in Childrey and see other kinds of flora. Don't forget to check out the local duck pond to observe the duck and geese that like to hang out in it or just enjoy the view.
If you're holidaying with your loved ones in the village, why not send flowers to Childrey? By doing this, you can surprise your mum and make Mother's Day or her birthday even more memorable. Or, if you're with your wife or girlfriend, you can spice up your anniversary and set a romantic tone for the rest of your holiday. Don't worry since there are lots of florists who specialize in Childrey flowers and can provide you with gorgeous and eye-catching bouquet that you're looking for.
