Flower Delivery to Chinnor with Clare Florist
The civil parish of Chinnor is a huge village in the southern region of Oxfordshire, which is a county in England. Chinnor is actually a spring line settlement that lies under the Chiltern escarpment along the Icknield Way. The Icknield Way is an ancient road that was developed sometime during the Iron Age around 300 B.C. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Chinnor. The village of Emmington has been a part of the civil parish of Chinnor since 1932.
According to a census taken in 2011, the population of the civil parish is 5,924 people. Chinnor used to have furniture makers and huge cement works to employ its residents. Nowadays, most of the residents commute to other towns and cities for work which is why Chinnor is considered to be a dormitory village. Some of the commute destinations include Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Thame, and London.
The earliest records of Chinnor show that it was ruled by King Edward the Confessor. A royal Saxon servant named Lewin also held the manor in the village during this time, according to the Domesday Book of 1086. Eventually, the manor fell into the ownership of Walter de Vernon of the Norman de Vernon family. But in 1194, his property was taken away from him after he refused to assist Prince John in France. Over the following years, the property would be passed down to various prominent leaders including Saer de Quincy, Roger de Quincy, Richard Fermor and many others.
In 1160, Saint Andrew’s parish church of the Church of England was built in Chinnor. Parts of it got rebuilt over the years, like the nave and tower during the 13th century and a total renovation during the 14th century. This church still exists today and is a popular site for both tourists and religious followers. If you are coming to Chinnor with your romantic partner then you should check this church out. There are also three public houses for you to stop at including the Red Lion, the Wheatsheaf, and the Crown.
