The village of Tackley is a civil parish located in Oxfordshire, England. The River Cherwell lies just beside Tackley. One is called Tackley, named after the village itself, and the other is called Nethercott. According to a 2011 census, there are approximately 998 people living in Tackley. There is archaeological evidence that Tackley was inhabited during the era of the Roman Empire. There was a major Roman road that went through Tackley which is now called Akeman Street. Later in the 17th century, Tackley Park was created which is also called Hill Court. These two structures were demolished years ago. All that remain are their outbuildings; two dovecotes and a thatched barn. However, there is one house from the 17th century that did survive called Court Farm. In the 1950s, the interior of the house was remodelled in order to help preserve it. The oldest structure in the village is the Saint Nicholas Church, which is a parish church of the Church of England. It was constructed in the 11th century and the majority of its remnants are original stonework from the Saxon era. The lower part of the church’s tower was constructed in the 13th century and the upper part was constructed in the 15th century. In 1862, the church was damaged after lightning struck it. Two years later it was restored.
