Flower Delivery to Fingask Castle with Clare Florist

The council area of Perth and Kinross in Scotland corresponds with the former counties of Perthshire and Kinross-shire, and the city of Perth is the administrative centre of the Lieutenancy area.  Fingask Castle is a country house in Perth and Kinross, sitting 200 feet above Rait. This is three miles northeast of Errol in the Braes of the Carse on the edges of the Sidlaw Hills.

It overlooks the Firth of Tay, the Carse of Gowrie and into the Kingdom of Fife. At one time, Fingask Castle was a holy place and a stopping point between the abbeys at Falkirk and Scone. Later, the Bruce family held the castle and then it fell to the Threiplands.

The first charter of the castle was in 1114 or 1115 in the Foundation Charter of the Abbey of Scone by Alexander I.  The Bruce family owned the lands of Rait, including Fingask, during the 15th century. A stone was set into the house showing the date 1594 at the time Patrick Bruce was laird of the lands.

Patrick Threipland bought the estates in 1672, began renovating the buildings and laying out the gardens. The lands were created a barony the same year. Patrick was knighted and in 1687 created a baronet of Nova Scotia. Sadly, he died a prisoner at Stirling Castle in 1689, the result of his loyalty to the ousted King James VII.

His son David, 2nd Baronet, joined the Jacobite uprising of 1715 and fought against the government alongside the Earl or Mar in the Battle of Sheriffmuir. The uprising failed, the baronetcy was attainted by Parliament and Fingask Castle and its estates forfeited. The York Buildings Company purchased the properties and held them until 1783, leasing them to Dame Katherine Threipland, daughter of David.

In 1745, the castle was badly damaged by government troops when the Threiplands again supported the Jacobites during the second Jacobite rising. Dr. Stuart Threipland, a half-brother of one of the sons of the 2nd baronet David was able to re-purchase Fingask in 1783 at a forfeited land sale.

In 1826, an Act of Parliament repealed the attainder of 1826. Sir Patrick Threipland was restored as baronet. He added to the house between 1828 and 1840. The fifth baronet, also Sir Patrick, lived at the house until his death in 1882. The Threipland Baronetcy became dormant and Fingask Castle went to William Scott Kerr. Kerr changed his name to William Murray Threipland and he was raised to the Welsh Guards in 1915.

Fingask Castle left the Threipland family again in 1917 when Sir John Henderson Stewart 1st Baronet and whisky merchant purchased it. At the time, the estate was made up of 1070 arable acres, 1400 acres of hills and 116 acres of hills. H.B. Gilroy bought the estate in 1925, undertaking a complete remodel of the home.

The home and castle became Threipland property again in 1969 when Mark Threipland, grandson of Welsh Guard Colonel William Murray Threipland acquired it.  The grounds and gardens have been planted with hundreds of trees and decorated with statues, gargoyles, topiaries and even a bamboo forest. The house remains in the Threipland family to this day.

It serves as a wedding venue, and the castle has an exclusive private wedding chapel available to rent a mere 15 minutes from Perth. The home, castle and grounds are riddled with shrines as well as unusual features for visitors to discover. It is home to the annual Fingask Follies musical event in late May and early June. For those with a passion for flowers in Perth and Kinross, the annual Snowdrop Festival held at Fingask is not to be missed.
