Flower Delivery to Bridge of Earn by Clare Florist
Bridge of Earn is a small town located in Perthshire, Scotland. It is usually referred to as ‘The Brig’ by the inhabitants. The Village developed on the south bank of the River Earn on an important crossing with a sandstone bridge existed from around the 14th century after repairs had been carried out on it by the order of King Robert I of Scotland (1306-1329). Remnants of the medieval bridge had survived into the 1970’s before it was demolished due to its dangerously ruinous state. The ancient bridge was a major landmark between the present Edinburgh and the ancient Perth for many years. Along the road are some of the village’s oldest houses. 18th century datestones are common in the area.
King Edward I in 1296 crossed the river Earn in pursuit of Sir William Wallace. Oliver Cromwell also set camp at the area in1651, just before marching on perch. The earlier village of Earn was built in 1769 with a main street that led to the old bridge and the former harbor on the Earn which had regular visitations with steamboats from Perth and Dundee. The villages’ newer parts were built in 1832. It was on public records that there where "no Dissenting chapel in the area" by 1842 but by the following year the elders of the parish signed a deed of demission of office in the church and later formed themselves for a free church in Bridge of Earn. The foundation of the church at Sealsbridge was laid few months after.
