The Gaer House – this is an estate located about two miles from the Newport to Cardiff road. It's situated near a Roman fort which gave the name to the estate. The original version of this house was built during the time of Queen Elizabeth by Alexander Seys. The house remained in the possession of the Seys family until the death of William Seys. The house passed to the son of Florence Seys, daughter of William who married Anthony Montonnier Hawkins.

Gaer House was then renovated entirely. The house offers views of the Bristol Channel to the coast of Somersetshire. Thomas Powell, a Magistrate and Deputy-Lieutenant of Monmouthshire owned the home by the mid-19th century. In the 20th century, the home was owned by Charles D. Phillips.

Newport Castle – built in the 14th century, this castle is now in ruins. It was probably built by Hugh de Audley, the 1st Earl of Gloucester or his son-in-law. The castle was built for managing the crossing of the River Usk. Newport Castle has been closed since 2011 due to safety concerns. It is, however, a Grade II* listed building since 1951.

National Museum Cardiff – both a museum and art gallery with free entrance; although, the museum does ask for donations. The museum features several exhibition and events and houses national art, geology and natural history collections. Also, major touring and temporary exhibitions are housed here.
