Red Sandstone had been used in its construction while its bell has been the property of the church since 1773. The oak that has been used for the window panels are from a tree planted by Sir Walter Scott in Abbotsford. The churchyard was both a first and a second war memorial site. The Parish Church also holds many stone tombs which date back to the eighteenth century.

Owned by the Tweedle Family, this was a small castle which is 300 m above sea level and holds a history of family rivalry and bitter conflicts over property and livestock that went on for generations.
