Flower Delivery to Clun – A Town in Shropshire Overlooked by Castle Ruins
Sitting on two Ice Age mounds is the ruined Clun Castle which overlooks the town of Clun. Described by poet A.E. Housman as one of the “quietest places under the sun” in his work A Shropshire Lad, Clun is the perfect place for rest and relaxation. As such, the town does make a lovely romantic destination. All you need are some Clun flowers and a nice picnic and you've got yourself a simple yet romantic date. The area near the Borderland Castle makes a lovely and scenic picnic spot and is a great place for children to have fun in.
A 15th-century Packhorse Bridge divides Clun into two: the ancient part located on the south and the newer one found on the north. The town has some historical highlights as well including the Town Hall, Clun Bridge and the Clun Castle. Lovers of walks can also use Clun as a starting point for exploring the Shropshire Way, the Jack Mytton Way or any of the local circular walks.
The name Clun is derived from the river which the town stands in. The town grew around the site of a Saxon church built towards the end of the 7th-century AD. In the area surrounding the town was a scattered population during the Neolithic period.
Clun was part of the historic drove road which was used to drive flocks and herds from Wales to the markets of Midlands and London. During the Norman Conquest, Clun was part of the lands of Eadric The Wild. When he revolted against King William I, his lands were confiscated and given to Roger de Montgomery, later Earl of Shrewsbury.
There are some really interesting attractions in Clun, and these include:
Clun Castle – a Norman castle that is now in ruins. It is a Grade I listed building owned by the Duke of Norfolk and managed by English Heritage. There is an area around this castle that is perfect for picnics. Just get some flowers in Clun to give to your partner and you've got yourself a really nice and simple picnic. Or, you can be more dramatic and choose to send flowers to Clun to your accommodation.
Clun Bridge – a 15th-century packhorse bridge that is still used to this day by all vehicles.
Trinity Hospital – these are almshouses built in 1614 located on Hospital Lane.
Town Hall – found on the corner of The Square and High Street. This town hall is now a museum.
St George's Church – located south of Clun Bridge.
Walking. You can start exploring the Shropshire Way and the Jack Mytton Way in Clun. Apart from these two walks, there are also local circular walks you can try in Clun itself.
