There is archaeological evidence of a Romano-British settlement in Charlton Adams and these include postherds, coins, slab graves and buildings in Perrin's Quarry located at Bulland in the north-west of the parish. The presence of buildings at the quarry also suggest that quarrying activities occurred in the areas back then.
The presence of a Roman settlement is further proved by the field name Chessels, which is located to the south of the village. In the south-ease corner of Station Road an dChurch Lane lie the parish church and the Abbey which was once the lay rectory.

The Abbey, Charlton Adam – a 16th-century country house. It is named as such because the site where it stands was the site of the Chantry Chapel of the Holy Spirit which was established in 1237. The building is a Grade I listed structure.
Lytes Cary Manor – located near Charlton Mackrell, this manor house has an associated chapel and gardens. The National Trust owns the property and the building has features dating back to th e14th century. The house is also Grade I listed.
The Church of St Mary – this 13th-century church is situated in West Charlton.
Ilchester Museum – local museum housed within the Ilchester Town Hall. The structure was built around 1812 and 1816 and incorporates parts of a 17thc-century building. The exhibits show the history of the town from the past to the present.
Cadbury Castle – best known for being one of the reputed sites of Camelot. The castle is located in the civil parish of South Cadbury and is a scheduled monument.
