Flower Delivery to Donyatt with Clare Florist
Donyatt is a small village located in Somerset county, England. This county is in the southwest region of the country and situated next to the River Isle. The current population of Donyatt is just over 340 people. Most of the residents here are old time residents who either work off the land or commute to nearby towns for employment.
Donyatt is an old village that can be traced all the way back to the year 725. At that time the village was called Dunnyete, which means Dunna’s Gate. Donyatt can also be found in the Domesday Book of 1086. The book mentions that a park in the village was conquered by the Count of Mortain. In 1328, the 2nd Earl of Salisbury, William Montacute, was born in Donyatt. His family built a castle and manor house in the village. Later on in 1624, the almshouses were built and founded by John Dunster of London. These houses would allow the poor residents of the village to have adequate shelter.
Eventually, a schoolhouse was built next to the almshouses in the year 1871. This was a momentous occasion for the villagers because it finally gave them a chance to get a decent education and possibly move onto bigger and better things as they got older.
Local issues in Donyatt are handled by the parish council. They evaluate all local planning applications, and works with district council officers, neighbourhood watch groups and local police departments. They also take care of maintaining public utilities, highways, public transportation, street cleaning, and drainage. The main authority of Donyatt lies under the nonmetropolitan district of South Somerset. This district is responsible for building control, local planning, environmental health, fire services, council housing, markets, cemeteries, parks, tourist attractions, recycling, leisure services and more.
If you are travelling to the southwest region of England and would like to visit a village with a lot of historical buildings, then Donyatt is a nice place to visit.
