Flower Delivery to Tamworth by Clare Florist
Tamworth is a large market town in Staffordshire, England. It was once the capital of the Ancient Kingdom of Mercia, and is now one of the largest towns in the Midlands. Visitors who want to visit Tamworth will really enjoy rediscovering the town's past, as well as enjoy the attractions of a thriving modern town.
Tamworth started out as a Saxon settlement, and was made into an important region by King Offa of Mercia. During the Middle Ages, the Normans came and built a castle, which still stands to this day. It was during this time that Tamworth became a market town. However, it suffered a disastrous fire in 1345 which resulted in most of the town getting burned.
The 16th and 17th centuries weren't kind to Tamworth either as the town continuously suffered from plague outbreaks. Luckily, the outbreak that happened in 1626 was the last ever to hit the place. By the 19th century, the population of Tamworth grew rapidly. It was also a time where improvements came. A railway reached it in 1847, a newspaper called The Tamworth Herald was established in 1868, a cemetery opened in 1876, and a hospital was built in 1880 – just to name a few.
Tamworth Castle is a Norman castle located next to the River Tame. It is one of Norman motte-and-bailey castles in England that has remained well preserved. It also has the second largest motte in England next to that of Windsor Castle. It is a Grade I listed building. Other than being a structure that brings back memories of the town's history, the castle has so-called Pleasure Grounds where visitors can see Tamworth flowers. Not only that, visitors can also enjoy a picnic or a stroll along the river. It's also home to a lot of wildlife.
Those who love adventure will surely enjoy a trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park. It is a theme park, resort, and zoo in one. The park is comprised of lots of rides, including roller coasters, thrill rides, and water rides. Some of the most popular ones include the Shockwave (which is the only stand-up coaster in Europe), and the Apocalypse (which is a five-sided drop tower).
Another interesting part of the park is Thomas Land. It contains lots of rides based on Thomas & Friends. This is the area perfect for families who have young children. Other than the rides, Thomas Land also has daily live shows, an exhibition, a shop, and an indoor and outdoor play area.
Hodge Lane Nature Reserve is comprised of oak woodland with ponds and meadow grassland. In the 1800s, it used to be a clay extraction and brick making site. However, it now serves as a home to newts, birds, and a wide variety of wild flowers in Tamsworth.
Tamworth not only boasts of a rich history, but it has also adapted quite well with modernity. It's a good place to visit for those who love a good blend of past and present.
