Barton Mills is a civil parish and village in the Forest Heath district of Suffolk, England. Its name, according to Eilert Ekwall, a professor and outstanding scholar of the English language, means Corn farm by the mill. Before Barton Mills, however, it was originally called Barton Parva (Little Barton), and was only changed in the 18th century when travellers from London to Norwich used it as a half way house, thus the modern name that the village is known for.

In 1086, as recorded in the Domesday Book, the population of this picturesque village was just 24. Today, around 900 people live in the area. You can just imagine how they managed to create a record-breaking number of scarecrows.
