Raydon, a village in the county of Suffolk, is located in the eastern region of England. It is part of the Babergh district and just south of the town of Hadleigh. Raydon includes the hamlets of Lower Raydon and The Woodlands.

Raydon is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as “Reindune” and “Reinduna.” It appears on a 1610 historic map as “Roydon” and “Reydon St. Mary.”  The name means “rye covered hill.” The settlement in the village dates back to the medieval period when there was a mill in Raydon. The church is dedicated to St. Mary and was built in the 14th century, though earlier church records suggest another structure existed as early as 1254.

During World War II, an airfield was built in Raydon that was used by the United States Air Force during the war, and would become known as Royal Air Force Base Raydon. RAF Raydon closed in the late 1950s, and many of the buildings in that area are now a business park.

This area in the Essex-Suffolk border is on the River Stour and has many different types of wildlife and landscapes to enjoy, including many open meadows and agricultural fields.
