Flower Delivery to Tredegar with Clare Florist
Situated on the Sirhowy River and within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire, Tredegar is a town that is both beautiful and blessed with a unique history. It is a town that has suffered ups and downs, but still keeps on going.
Whether viewing the lovely Tredegar flowers in one of the most significant late 17th-century homes in the whole of Britain or enjoying a leisurely time, Tredegar is the town for you.
The upper Sirhowy Valley was a natural well-wooded valley and consisted of a few farms. The valley was rich with natural resources such as iron ore, coal, power and wood. Thanks to these resources, the town grew into a developed one with the farms now accompanied by small iron works.
Pont Gwaith Yr Hearn was the first recorded iron works in the Sirhwowy Valley. It was developed by two Bretons and had workers from Penydarren, Merthyr Tydfil.
In 1750, the Sirhowy Iron Works was put up by Mr Kettle of Shropshire. By 1778, he sold the ironworks to Thomas Atkinson and William Barrow, two gentlemen who came from London.
Atkinson and Barrow developed the iron works into the first coal-fired furnace with men hired to dig coal at Bryn Bach and Nantybwch. However, these businesses failed in 1794.
The failure resulted in the new Sirhowy Ironworks, which became the Tredegar Iron Company in 1800. This was done in honour of the Tredegar Estate at Tredegar House and Tredegar Park located in Newport.
Bedwellty House – a Grade II listed house and gardens. It was a home built for Samuel Homfray, owner of the Iron and Coal Works which served as the main source of employment for most of the 19th century.
The 26-acre Victorian garden was originally designed to be a Dutch garden. It contains Long Shelter, which is another Grade II listed structure.
Apart from touring the property, weddings and other celebrations can be hosted here. Although the place is filled with blooms, you can always send flowers to Tredegar too for your decorations. The estate has a lovely rock garden which serves as a great backdrop for a wedding photograph.
Tredegar House – a late 17th-century mansion that is also dubbed as one of the wonders of Wales. It's an architectural marvel situated within 90 acres of wonderful gardens and parkland.
The gardens are a sight for some lovely flowers in Tredegar and make a great added visual element to photos, especially on weddings which can be held in the property.
Another interesting thing to note about the house is that it's been used as a filming location several times. Shows such as Sherlock, Doctor Who and Being Human are some of the productions that have used the property as a location.
