For over a decade, local residents have enjoyed the Cullingworth Scarecrow Festival, a somewhat bizarre tradition in which neighbors craft their own scarecrows. The competition typically draws approximately 50 scarecrows for display and creates considerable local chatter. The Cullingworth Gardening Club often participates in the Scarecrow Festival and sponsors other gardening-related events throughout the year. This unique blend of history and celebration provides a snapshot of Cullingworth in general: a closeknit community that celebrates its history with a sense of humor.
