HISTORY

Elland is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Elant. The village remained occupied from before the Norman Conquest into the Middle Ages as the Elland family were descended from Anglo-Saxon thegns.

When the last of the male line of Elands passed, the manor went to the Savile family. The Savile's made their family seat at the moated manor of Thornhill.
