Milston is a very small civil parish located in Wiltshire in the southeast part of England. The closest city is the cathedral city of Salisbury located about 12 miles south of Milston. This civil parish is also very close to the village of Durrington.
This is an area with fertile ground and several rivers including Damson Brook and Nine Mile River, so it is no surprise why Milston and the surrounding area were populated since prehistoric times. Archeologists were able to find artifacts from the Bronze Age. There are also cemeteries from the iron Age and pottery from the Roman period. It is interesting to mention that this village was never populated with too many people. For example, there were about 100 people who lived here in the 14th century and 139 in 1601. Today Milston has a population of 130. So, both the population and the appearance of this village have not changed much in the past 150 years.
The name of the village comes from the Old English words midlest tun or middlemost settlement or farm. Today, only a small number of people are involved in agriculture.
This ground was used for military training for more than 100 years from 19th to 20th century.
Milston is also known as a birthplace of the famous politician and writer Joseph Addison.
