Whiteparish is one of the biggest villages in Wiltshire, England. This is also a civil parish which is located about 12 km or 7.5 miles south of the city of Salisbury. Although historians believe that there was human presence in this area since the Iron Age, the oldest archeological findings are Roman coins. This means that it is very likely that there were Romans settlements in the area. On the other hand, the first written record about this area was in 943 when King Edmund granted land to his thane Wulfgar. It is worth mentioning that the village itself was not mentioned although the area was described in details. After that the area was managed by the Wilton Abbey which started to lease the land in the 14th century. The origin of the name is very obvious – it came from the church in this area. This name was used starting from the 12th century and many people back then called this settlement White Church. The Industrial Revolution had positive effects for this region and the population increased two times in the 19th century and it reached more than 1500. During the WWI and WWII many young people from this village and the surrounding villages gave their lives for peace.
Whiteparish is located about 90 miles east of London. It will take a 2-hour drive to reach this interesting village via M3. Drivers can also use the M4 or A303 and M3.
All Saints’ Church
