The Gardening World Cup

Trophy

So you think you’re pretty green-fingered? Are you green-fingered enough to enter the world cup, though?

If that doesn’t make any sense, then let me explain: nobody’s talking about FIFA here. This is a world cup … for gardeners.

It takes place in Japan, and it so wildly popular there that this year the competition has been extended for an extra fortnight so that people get longer to work on their beautiful gardens. Twelve of the best designers in the world get to go head to head, designing the gardens which they think will be original, innovative and awesome enough to help them scoop the prize.

From British designer James Basson’s entry, which takes the theme of a bullet ripping through concrete, to an astonishing Islamic garden by Malaysian designer Lim in Chong, to Annek Vougel’s garden of white origami flowers, there’s an amazing array of talent, flowers and garden fun on show, all in a building built to replicate the feel of an ancient Dutch palace.
