Send Carnations with Free UK delivery

Carnations are one of the most popular flowers around. They're versatile, remarkably durable, and they actually last longer when they are cut. A carnation bouquet is a flower fiend's dream come true!

Carnations are native to the Mediterranean region in Europe, or so we think — they've been grown in captivity for so long now that it's hard to tell when their cultivation began! Carnation Flowers are said to express several traditional meanings. The main emotions associated with carnations are love, fascination, and distinction, though there are many variations dependent on the colour of the petals.

The carnation's formal name, dianthus, comes from Greek for 'heavenly flower', or the flower of Jove. Jove, also known as Jupiter, was the Roman equivalent of the Greek God Zeus - known for his curly beard and thunderbolts! Thankfully the carnation doesn't carry these properties over - it's a far more calming, enchanting flower than that!

Carnation Flower Delivery with Clare Florist

Carnations were first mentioned in Greek and Roman scriptures where they are detailed as being used to create ornate garlands and crowns. If you were born in January, you may be interested to learn that the carnation is the birth flower for this month. As such, if you've a loved one with a January birthday and you're stuck for gift inspiration, a lovely bouquet of fresh carnations would make for an inspired choice!

Here's another bit of weird and wonderful carnation trivia; in the final scene of the Beatles flick Magical Mystery Tour, the Fab Four all wear carnations on their tuxedos. All had red carnations apart from Paul who had a black one. This fact helped to fuel a conspiracy theory that Paul McCartney was actually dead!

FAQs

How do I look after carnations?

Firstly you should unwrap and rinse the stems. Fill a vase or other container with water and mix in the included flower food. Trim the stems and remove any excess leaves or foliage that will fall below water level in the vase.

Carnations do not like direct sunlight, cool drafts, or heat sources such as fireplaces. Cool room temperatures and a clean vase will ensure best results. Remember to change the water every few days.

When will the flowers be delivered?

Order flowers before 4:45pm for free next working day delivery. You can also select a future date if you want to plan ahead for a special day. Saturday and Sunday delivery will incur a small surcharge. Your flowers will be delivered before 6pm, or you can upgrade to a pre-1pm delivery for a small surcharge.

How much does it cost to get flowers delivered?

Flower delivery is free, and we deliver flowers across the UK.

Can I include a card with the flowers?

You can, yes. Choose a personalised hand-written card when you get to the checkout.
