Flower Delivery to Newcastle-upon-Tyne with Clare Florist

A Victorian city centre, quayside areas, art galleries, and excellent restaurants are just some of the elements that make Newcastle a city worth exploring for a few days, even more.

Located on the northern bank of the River Tyne, Newcastle is the home of more than 40,000 students who are responsible for driving the city’s nightlife.

It doesn’t matter where your interests lie, be it history, art, food, or the seaside, there’s something for you to enjoy in this North East England city.

History

Newcastle developed around Pons Aelius, a Roman settlement. The city got its name after a castle that was built by Robert Curthose, the eldest son of William the Conqueror, in 1080.

In the 14th century, the city was an important centre for the wool trade. It later became a major coal mining area.

The 16th century saw the development of the port, along with shipyards located further down the River Tyne. As a result, the area became the largest shipbuilding and ship repairing centre in the world.

Nightlife

The nightlife of Newcastle was listed by The Rough Guide to Britain as the number one tourist attraction of Great Britain. You’ll find a lot of the pubs, bars, and nightclubs around Bigg Market and the Quayside area.

Dining

There is a wide selection of cuisines in Newcastle, including American, French, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Moroccan, Spanish, Thai, and Vietnamese. The city is also one of seven in the UK that has a Chinese village with lots of restaurants on Stonewell Street.

Walks

One of the best ways to see lovely Newcastle-upon-Tyne flowers is to hit the trails. One such path that passes through the city is Hadrian’s Wall Path, a National Trail that stretches 84 miles, from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway. Twelve miles of the trail is located within the city, and much of it along the river bank.

You can see some flowers in Newcastle, wildlife, and green spaces. The Newcastle side of the trail starts in the Ward of Walkergate then takes you to Walker, Byker, Ouseburn, Westgate, Elswick, Benwell and Scotswood, and Lemington before leaving the Newcastle boundary.

There are of course more local walks, if you prefer. The Quayside Walk takes you on a tour around the Quays and could last from one to two hours. This walk allows you to see the Guildhall, Bessie Surtees House, and All Saint’s Church.

Theatre

Newcastle has a proud theatre history. There are still many theatres in the city, with the largest being the Theatre Royal on Grey Street.

Libraries

The Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne, more popularly known as the Lit & Phil, features over 150,000 books along with thousands of CDs and LPs.

The city also has its own city library and a museum dedicated to children’s books called Seven Stories.
