Nestled at the foot of the glorious Chilterns in Buckinghamshire is the market town of Wendover. Surrounded by lush forests and rolling hillsides, Wendover lies within Aylesbury Vale and its parish area of 5,832 acres is mostly arable land.

Wendover gets its name, "white waters," from the stream which originates in the neighbouring hills and meanders through the town centre carrying chalk deposits along with it. Dating back to Celtic times, the historic town centre visible today was constructed in 1842. The Tudor period Chiltern House and 18th Century Red House still stand on the picturesque tree-lined Aylesbury Street.

The town was granted a Royal charter in 1464 to hold a weekly market, which undoubtedly would have included a flower stall of some description, perhaps a service offering flower delivery in Wendover was established centuries ago. Officially, because of this charter, Wendover holds town status but locals prefer to call it a village and certainly it is village-like in its quaintness and charm.

Tudor Rose Anne Boleyn was once in possession of part of the town due to the manor of Aylesbury being among her father's numerous estates. The unfortunate Queen is still remembered by a row of houses known as Anne Boleyn's Cottages. Further royal connections are made via Sir Thomas Barlow who once resided in a prestigious house to the south of the town. Sir Thomas was the physician called to attend Queen Victoria as she lay dying.

Wendover is also said to be the birthplace of 13th Century English Chronicler Roger of Wendover who is best known for his Flores Historiarum (Flowers of History) which despite its name, mentions nothing of flora and fauna, but instead provides narrative of such acts as the signing of the Magna Carta.

A designated area of outstanding natural beauty, Wendover is frequented by conservationists, walkers, cyclists and horse riders who come to enjoy walks in the splendid Wendover Woods which in the Spring months are carpeted with bluebells.
