Flower Delivery to Camborne with Clare Florist
Camborne is a relatively new town, situated in Cornwall. It experienced rapid growth during the 19th century when the mining industry was in boom. Before this happened, Camborne Churchtown was just a small hamlet that was surrounded by moorland. It wasn't until the building of the turnpike road in 1839 when Camborne came into its own.
Camborne was once a prosperous town thanks to the mining industry. However, that is not so much the case after the last mine shut down. That said, improvements have been made to the town, including a refurbished town square which is worth the visit.
Camborne is well known for being the centre for the Cornish tin and copper mining industry, which rose to great heights during the later part of the 18th century and early 19th century. The area was just simple before then, but after the arrival of these industries, both the Camborne and Redruth district become one of the wealthiest in the area.
Other than the mines, several other industries flourished in Camborne as well. For example, it was once home to Holman Bros Ltd, the once world-renowned manufacturer of industrial equipment.
Due to the importance of metal mining the economy in Cornwall, the Camborne Scholl School of Mines was established. It was the only specialist hard rock education establishment in the UK before the Royal School of Mines was established. Now, CSM is part of the University of Exeter.
Puffing Devil, a steam locomotive and the first self-propelled passenger-carrying vehicle in the world, made a trip up to Camborne Hill on Christmas Eve 1801. It was built by Richard Trevithick, a Camborne engineer.
