After the Wars of the Three Kingdoms in the mid-seventeenth century, Portrush became a small fishing town. By the 19th century, it developed into a tourist destination thanks to the opening of the Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine, and Portrush Junction Railway.

In the 20th century, its tourist destination status was sealed as it became one of the major resort towns in Ireland and boasted a large number of hotels and boarding houses.

It's located along the North Antrim coast, and used to be the headquarters of the MacDonnell Clan. North West 200 – This is a motorcycle race meeting that is held every May. It’s a street circuit made up of public roads running between three towns, one of which is Portrush. It is considered to be one of the fastest in the world where speeds exceed 200 mph (320 km/h).
